What the Sapaw Move Means in Tongits
In Tongits Sapaw, a sapaw is a direct counter-challenge — when you believe your hand beats the current fighter's exposed melds, you announce sapaw and lay your cards face-up for comparison. Valid sapaw requires your hand total to be lower than your opponent's exposed meld count. Cards are ranked by their numeric value; face cards carry ten points each and an Ace
carries one. A player may only call sapaw during an active fight round, not during the normal draw-and-drop phase. If no one calls sapaw and the draw pile runs out, the player with the lowest card total wins. Understanding when sapaw is legal — and when it is not — is the single most important skill gap between new and experienced Tongits
players.
